Job Description

Parent Help are looking for volunteers who are passionate about helping families, and who have a background in counselling or social work to volunteer on our Parent Helpline. If you do not have a background in Counselling or Social Work, we would still love to hear from you if you feel this is a position you can bring value to, please reach out to us via email.

Purpose:
To staff the helpline that operates 7 days a week 9am – 9pm providing immediate support and practical advice to parents and families.

 A Telephone Support Worker will:

Be available for the phone roster on a regular basis. Frequency is dependent on your availability and number of volunteers on the roster. Daytime, evening and weekend shifts are available.

Daytime shifts are available from the Parent help office in Thorndon, evening and weekend shifts can be worked from home.

*Support and respect the philosophy and work of Parent Help

*Attend 3 monthly supervision and support

*Co-operate with other Parent Help staff

*Undergo a Police Vetting check

* Represent Parent Help in a professional manner

* Build rapport with clients on the phone

* Effectively communicate with clients

* Collect and assess information to ensure best possible outcome for client

* Help clients identify changes they can make

* Maintain the confidentiality of clients and their concerns

* Manage time and administrative requirements
