Māori Cultural Advisor

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Māori Cultural Advisor to become part of our vibrant organisation. In this role, you will spearhead the development and execution of the Te Mahere Ara Poutama | Māori Strategic Framework. You will play a key role in enhancing the engagement of Your Way | Kia Roha with Māori communities and in fostering essential relationships. Your responsibilities will include strengthening team capabilities and growing local community connections.

Note: This is a part-time position working 18-20 hours per week. 

What you will be doing:

  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring strategy in collaboration with the board and senior leadership team.
  • Developing resources, providing supervision, and conducting workshops to enhance team capability through Te Ara Namunamu | Pathway to Transformation.
  • Supporting the team in building and maintaining key strategic relationships with mana whenua in our communities.
  • Sourcing and maintaining data to inform strategy
  • Supporting the development of policies that will reflect Te Mahere Ara Poutama, TeTitiri o Waitangi and our mātāpono | values.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Fluency in Te Reo Māori is preferred.
  • Established connections and mana within the Māori community.
  • Experience in creating and delivering training materials.
  • Experience in cultural supervision for team members.
  • Self-motivated: Able to gather necessary information and make informed decisions, take initiative, and operate within set guidelines.
  • Adaptable: Capable of adjusting to changes in factors, conditions, or environments, and responding swiftly to evolving ideas, responsibilities, expectations, and trends.
  • Collaborative: Engages in shared decision-making, works well with teams, and is open to new perspectives.
  • Respectful: Accepts and values individuals for who they are, regardless of differences or disagreements.
  • Honest & Integrity-driven: Committed to fulfilling promises and performing tasks as required.
