Job Description

Do you have a passion for removing barriers to healthcare and social support for young people, and are interested in governance?

EVOLVE are looking for new Board members to join us in 2024: with co-Chair, Secretary and general board member positions available.

All Board roles are unpaid, but in return you will get an awesome opportunity to create meaningful change in a not-for-profit that does awesome work with young people (and kai at our monthly hui!)

Board meetings are held in the evening of the fourth Thursday of every month at our Cuba Street location. The Secretary can expect to work 12-15 hours per month, and the general Board member can expect to work 8-10 hours per month, but more hours may be required in the shorter term.

Key duties for all board roles include:

  • Setting the strategic direction of EVOLVE

  • Overseeing appropriate policies and procedures to ensure EVOLVE’s continued good governance

  • Playing a part in EVOLVE consensus based governance decision making

  • Ensuring EVOLVE’s values are upheld

In addition to these duties, the Secretary is also responsible for:

  • Preparing and collating minutes for each meeting

  • Ensuring Board decisions are appropriately recorded

  • Assisting the co-chairs to prepare and manage meeting agendas

In addition to these duties, the Co-Chair is also responsible for:

  • Meeting with and providing guidance to the General Manager

  • Representing Evolve to our wider connections throughout Aotearoa

  • Supporting other board members with strategic direction and board responsibilities

We are particularly keen to hear from both young people who would like to get experience on a governance Board, as well as people who have governance experience and can hit the ground running. In return we can offer a welcoming environment with development from experienced Board members.

As always, we are seeking Board members with diverse lived experiences - such as those who are LGBTQI+, refugees, Māori, Pasifika, or our homeless whānau.

EVOLVE commits to upholding te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles and a working knowledge of te Tiriti is highly desirable, but training can be provided.
