The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is a not for profit, membership-based organisation leading the way in surgical performance, professionalism and patient care in Australia and New Zealand.

With service to our members at the forefront of our business, we support ongoing learning and development for our surgical workforce of more than 8,300 surgeons and 1,300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.

Our Global Health Program focuses on strengthening health systems and building capacity of health workforce to improve the quality and accessibility of health, surgical treatment and post-operative care. We work across 15 countries in the Indo-Pacific Region with the support of multiple institutional and philanthropic donors.

About the role

As the newly created Chief Operations and Partnerships Officer in this key executive position, you will be responsible for leading the operations and commercial strategies at RACS. Through the pursuit of partnership and commercialisation opportunities, you will expand revenue streams to support the financial viability of RACS and drive operational efficiencies through the delivery of information technology and business transformation projects. 

Leading the Operations and Partnerships portfolio encompassing the IT, Business Transformation, Global Health, Foundation for Surgery, Complaints and Research, Audit and Academic Surgery functions, and with a key focus on delivering operational improvements you will:

  • Lead the identification and pursuit of strategic partnerships and commercial opportunities to drive revenue growth and diversification at an enterprise level
  • Develop and maintain B2B relationships, and relationships with key external stakeholders, including members, fellows, society partners, government agencies and international partners, to foster collaboration and drive business expansion.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to identify emerging sector trends, market gaps, and potential revenue streams for the organisation.
  • Oversee the delivery of information technology and management of the organisation’s technology infrastructure including hardware, software, networks and security. Providing technical support to staff, members and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the delivery of business transformation projects to enhance operational efficiencies, improve user experience, and drive innovation across the enterprise.
  • Lead change management processes, focusing on the integration, simplification and streamlining of business processes, driving continuous improvement to deliver quality services.
  • Lead and oversee the strategic direction of the international development program and the effective management and implementation of the Global Health program to contribute to building sustainable surgical services in our communities.

The role will be offered on a three-year contract and can be located in any of our larger Australian state offices or Aotearoa New Zealand.

Skills and experience  

  • Tertiary qualifications in discipline relevant to the core work of the college (e.g., health, policy, business etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience and proven ability of business principles, commercial management, and revenue expansion.  
  • Proven experience to manage and drive operational process change initiatives, implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure buy-in and foster collaboration.
  • Track record of delivery high-quality outcomes and achieving measurable results.
  • Collaborative and inclusive leadership approach with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve high performance and a positive and effective organisational culture
