Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand is the Catholic Bishops’ agency for justice, peace and development. We work in partnership and solidarity with communities throughout the world to promote human dignity and the common good. Our work of hope tackles both the causes and effects of poverty and injustice and responds swiftly to human and natural disasters. We promote advocacy and education for justice in New Zealand and Oceania, and we play an integral part in the worldwide Caritas network of 165 relief, development, and social service organisations. We are part of the Oceania Caritas network who collaborate on issues within our region as well as the Caritas global network.

Reporting to the Head of Programmes, the Impact Lead will provide advice, guidance, and support in Monitoring, Evaluating, Researching, and Learning (MERL) activities for a wide range of international development and humanitarian programmes across Aotearoa, Oceania, Asia and other regions of the world.  The role will provide strategic direction and technical solutions for all MERL components to ensure programmes are designed with appropriate MERL mechanisms and that best practice standards, principles and tools are applied to ensure high-quality implementation. The Impact Lead is also accountable for monitoring, researching, analysing and reporting on programme implementation, in connection with local counterparts and communities within the regions we work in, to deliver a robust portfolio of evidence from which to track activity progress and generate learnings to improve programme performance and impact.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to all aspects of planning, implementation and monitoring of the activities of programmes.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of programme MERL plans.
  • Provide quality assurance for research, analysis and the delivery of high-quality monitoring outputs.
  • Contribute to capacity strengthening initiatives in MERL for staff and partners.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with communities, funders, peer organisations, research, and other institutions to create synergy and consistency.
