Your role: We are seeking a dedicated Legacy and Philanthropy Specialist to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, this role is pivotal in nurturing and expanding our relationships with supporters and donors, with a particular focus on our Legacy programme. You will be the driving force behind building deep, meaningful connections with our supporters and managing our bequest programme.

Key responsibilities:

Legacy Programme

  • Develop and manage a communication matrix for confirmed bequests and prospects.
  • Engage with Kurt Hahn Club members and bequest prospects through phone calls and personal visits.
  • Work with individual giving specialists to craft and distribute communications such as; newsletters, event invitations and donor care messages.
  • Liaise with the Outward Bound Foundation Chair once new Kurt Hahn Club members are confirmed.

Major and High-Level Supporter Programme

  • Manage individual and scholarship programmes funded by individuals, community trusts, and small businesses.
  • Cultivate and grow high-level donations for various programmes.
  • Arrange annual visits to donors and create tailored communications and funding proposals.
  • Support the Head of Fundraising to grow sponsorship in targeted regions.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • At least 2-3+ years of experience in a similar role, with proven experience in relationship fundraising.  NFP and bequests area experience highly valued.
  • Proven emotional intelligence with excellent listening skills and the ability to make supporters feel valued and heard.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write compelling stories and messages.
  • Able to travel for meetings with bequestors, existing donors, donor prospects, and to attend and MC celebrations.
  • Proficiency in data management and information collation, particularly using Excel at present. 
  • Keen to be part of an upcoming digital transformation at Outward Bound that will make your job easier!
  • Confidence and willingness to ask for donations over the phone and in person.
  • A self motivated attitude with the drive and desire to meet targets.  Your attention to details & desire to continually improving processes is important to you. 
  • You are great at managing your internal and external relationships, valuing diversity.  To us this means you have the ability to work successfully with and for people of all views and preferences, recognising and respecting differences.
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti and upholding these values - or a genuine desire to learn.
  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of, Te Ao Māori and as an Outward Bound staff member, promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.
