Do you have a passion for working with rangatahi (aged 15 to 24) who are unemployed or not in education or training (NEET), or are at risk of long-term unemployment?  Would you like to support these rangatahi to actively engage in learning or to attain and sustain employment?  Do you like to work in a fun and inspiring environment? If so, this may be the job for you!!

Taiohi Tūrama - Rotorua Centre for Youth (previously known as the Rotorua Youth Centre) is looking for a motivated and experienced Youth Worker Navigator to be part of our Youth Employment team.

As a Youth Worker Navigator you will:

  • work as part of a collaborative team alongside the Youth Employment Manager, the Education to Employment Vocational Broker, the Workplace Opportunities Broker and 4 other Youth Worker Navigators. 
  • Identify and recruit rangatahi (aged 15 to 24 years) who are NEET or at a high risk of becoming NEET.
  • Work in a culturally competent way (with 76% of the rangatahi we work with identifying as Māori).
  • Work with, and support, rangatahi to identify individual support needs, develop aspirational pathway plans and build quality relationships.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and support for rangatahi and help them with navigating their journey to achieve their tailored pathway plan (including whānau where able).
  • Support rangatahi to develop the seven employability skills, additional work readiness and life skills.
  • Work in partnership with the Workplace Opportunities Broker to identify possible job or training opportunities, in particular vocational pathways.
  • Work within a collaborative Pūtake Nui approach within all aspects of work.

Our successful candidate will be willing to develop their understanding of youth development best practice and/or undertake training in youth development if they do not come with this; have an ability to provide a tailored approach (including information, skills, knowledge, connections, guidance, employment opportunities and pastoral care) that supports rangatahi to being work-ready, and gain and sustain employment; provide collaboratively, with ‘partners, an intensive and comprehensive wrap-around service to remove the barriers our rangatahi face; demonstrate professionalism and strong work ethic, including maintaining confidentiality; and, be creative, innovative, flexible and able to use initiative. 

Taiohi Tūrama is a not for profit organisation funded by Government agencies (including Te Whatu Ora and the Ministry of Social Development)) and other organisations through contracts and grants.
