About NZAVS: The New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society (NZAVS) is Aotearoa’s only charity 100% dedicated to stopping animals from being used in experimentation. Established in 1978, we have successfully led campaigns to ban the testing of cosmetics and legal highs on animals in NZ. Our mission is to end animal experimentation and the harmful use of animals for science in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Role Overview: As a board member, you will be vital in steering NZAVS towards achieving its mission. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an ethical cause and make a real difference. While the position is unpaid, the rewards of contributing to such a meaningful cause are immeasurable.

Location: New Zealand (Virtual meetings, annual in-person meeting)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly virtual board meetings and an annual in-person meeting.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director (ED) and other board members to progress NZAVS's work.

  • Contribute to the development and approval of annual budgets and strategic plans.

  • Assist in planning and conducting the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

  • Ensure NZAVS operates with good governance and in accordance with its mission, vision, and core principles.

  • Passion for animal rights and the mission of NZAVS.

  • Commitment to ethical practices and non-violent advocacy.

  • Willingness to dedicate time voluntarily to the society.

  • Respect for diverse viewpoints and a collaborative spirit.

  • Experience in governance, strategic planning, or related fields is a plus.

  • Particular interest in applicants with experience in HR, legal, fundraising, campaign experience and finance fields.
