what we do.

Good Bitches Baking (GBB) is a nationwide organisation that spreads kindness in the community through the mechanism of baking. We have about 3,200 Good Bitches in 30 chapters from Whangārei to Invercargill who bake treats in their own kitchens for distribution to about 460 organisations that support people having some kind of a tough time. 

Our dream is that all people in Aotearoa New Zealand who are having a tough time feel supported and valued, whatever their circumstances. We’re working towards this by enabling the spread of kindness through the mechanism of baking, because kindness benefits everyone involved and ripples through the community..

Because we’re so comfortably established now and settling into a growth period, there’s a lot required to keep the ovens on and the beaters beating. We want to maximise the opportunity to promote more kindness in our communities, but also ensure that the ‘moment of happiness’ doesn’t become unmanageable for our recipients or stop being fun for our volunteers, and that everyone has a consistently excellent experience when they come into contact with GBB.

 

what we need.

Our board of trustees is looking for a new trustee to join the board to help lead our organisation into the future. It’s one more of the many voluntary positions we have but this one comes with legal responsibilities too.

Currently, there are six trustees, and with one soon to hang up their apron, we’re especially looking for someone with financial management experience in a governance context.This new appointment will allow us to balance the range of skills, demographics and experience so we can govern appropriately, competently and with flair. 

what you’ll do.

You’ll be a fresh-from-the-oven voice, bringing your own particular skillset and experience to round out our established and experienced Board. 

You’ll focus on the big picture and the future of Good Bitches Baking. Our GM Katy does the day-to-day work, supported by four part-time staff who look after marketing and communications, general operations and volunteer management, but she looks to the Board for the long term vision, financial oversight, policy development and strategic direction.  

The time commitment (board meetings and other bits and pieces) is about 10 hours each month, although this may vary from time to time.

 

who you are.

You’re a good bitch in every sense of the word - thoughtful, collaborative, energetic, proactive, keen to make kindness the norm, and very excited by our kaupapa. 

You’ll be committed to doing what it takes to help us spread kindness one treat at a time, and will have some governance experience to bring to the table.  You’ll either have experience in the not-for-profit sector, or a burning desire to support this sector. 

You’ll have strategic and financial experience as well as connections to a wide cross-section of the  community. You can communicate effectively and positively with other people, even when you don’t agree with them, and you’re comfy using online business tools.

Brownie points if you’re keen to bring snacks to the biannual in-person board meetings!
