Voluntary, Board/Director Community Development Education Fundraising Governance Marketing, Communications and Media

Job Description

YEPT is a NZ registered charitable trust. We are governed by a Board of trustees, currently with 4 Trustees based in different locations around Aotearoa, including a Chairperson. We have a Finance Officer, and a Correspondence Course Coordinator, and engage other contractors as necessary.

For more than a decade we have provided yoga and meditation education to people in prison, so they can transform their own lives.  Our programs support healing, rehabilitation and pro-social benefits for all.

We have three main channels through which we deliver our education.  We manage our nationwide Correspondence Course Program, we supply a video series of yoga classes delivered twice daily through the national prison TV system, and we have an affiliation program with experienced yoga teachers around NZ who deliver in person sessions in prison where possible.

We are looking to develop more reach within the prison system as well as to raise our profile in NZ for more private and public support so that our charity may continue to serve people in prison and the wider community.

If you are passionate about making a positive impact, have the skills to support our vision and want to be part of this life-changing journey, then maybe you are the right person to join us as a trustee.

The role:

Our new trustee will have business oversight skills to contribute to our work of steering the trust into its next phase.  As a trustee you will have shared responsibility for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.  This is a voluntary role and would suit someone with a strong desire to, and who is in a position to give back to the community for the benefit of people in prisons in Aotearoa, their families and the wider community.

Our new trustee must have availability to attend monthly board meetings (virtual) currently on the first Thursday of each month, to travel to an annual in person weekend hui and to support the trust’s goals with 3 - 4 voluntary hours able to be committed each month.

Our ideal candidate would be someone with:
