The White Room removes barriers to making art. People who face barriers to participation in art and creative activities need supportive and non-judgmental places where creativity is the common language. The White Room is a community creative space that enables opportunities to make, participate and share art – alongside others. We’re welcoming, accessible and supportive. Through this, artists build confidence, connections and embrace new opportunities.  
The White Room Creative Space is part of SkillWise. The SkillWise mission is to work in partnership with disabled people, their families and whānau to assist in creating a life where people are valued as full participating citizens through work, education and fun! We strive to help people to integrate and participate in their communities in ways that enhance their quality of life, so they can live the life they want.  
About the role:  
Work alongside the Arts Facilitator team to create a welcoming and inclusive studio space where we plan, deliver, and respond to creative opportunities. This includes planning and delivering outreach events, workshops and exhibitions.  
About you:  
We are looking for someone who is creative, energetic, enthusiastic and a committed team player.  Key skills and attributes for the role:  
  • a commitment to making a positive difference to outcomes for artists
  • takes a culturally responsive approach to learning relationships
  • experience and qualifications in one or more art disciplines
  • a clear communicator who is responsive to the skills, needs, and interests of the artists
  • innovative thinker who uses their own initiative    
  • previous experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues in a community setting would be helpful, although not essential
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to network with a wide range of people  
  • excellent computer skills – a laptop/cell phone are provided. We use Microsoft Teams + our own information management database  
  • we welcome applicants with lived experience of disability.  
This position is full time (37.5 hours), Tuesday – Saturday 9am – 5pm.
The role is for a 12-month fixed term period due to funding and is paid $28.25 per hour.
We are open to this role being undertaken by two people part-time (20 hours each).
We have regular supervision and EAP available.  

A clear police vet is required for this role. Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
