About Us

Operating for over 30 years, Eco Choice Aotearoa (ECA) is the country’s official ecolabel for goods and services. We’re a not-for-profit, trademarked by the Ministry for the Environment. Our mission is to work alongside businesses to minimise their environmental impact, and support consumers in making responsible purchasing decisions.

 

Eco Choice is a member of the esteemed Global Ecolabeling Network (GEN) and recognised by the likes of the New Zealand and Australian Green Building Councils, Infrastructure Sustainability Council, B Corp and U.S Environmental Protection Agency’s Federal Purchasing Programme.

 

The Role

The Head of Standards will play a critical role as the ecolabel goes through a period of business transformation to increase its efficiency and impact. Reporting to the CEO this role is responsible for overseeing the ecolabel’s technical standards (format and content) to ensure they’re representative of best practice, relevant and comprehensive.

 

Engaging with peers across the Global Ecolabelling Network, the Head of Standards will share knowledge and keep tabs on international trends, regulations or innovations.  This position will be expected to field technical queries from businesses interested in certification and provide support throughout the process.

 

As Eco Choice Aotearoa’s scientific expert this role is expected to proactively participate in forums, events and projects to build the ecolabel’s profile and strengthen its reputation.

 

What you’ll bring

  • A background and relevant qualification in environmental science (Masters preferred);
  • A strong understanding of LCA methodology, ISO standards and frameworks (specifically IS0 14001, 14021, 14024);
  • Exceptional analytical and research skills;
  • Enthusiasm for working alongside industry and business, to help minimise environmental and social impact, and raise standards;
  • Solutions mindset, particularly when faced with uncertainty or changing circumstances;
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
  • A willingness to contribute to thought-leadership initiatives;
  • The ability to distil and make relevant, complex information for a variety of audiences;
  • Stakeholder engagement;
  • Confidence using computers and software i.e. Word, Excel;
  • Self-motivated;
  • An ability to work as part of a team or independently.
