Job Description

Chief Executive Officer

  • Purposeful role with impact
  • Apply your commercial agility
  • Lead our growth transformation

Our Mission, Vision and Purpose

Our mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.  Our vision is to grant the wish of every eligible child.

About us

Make-A-Wish New Zealand granted our first wish in 1986.  Since then, we have grown into a well-recognised mid-sized non-profit, within a challenging and competitive environment, granting thousands of wishes along the way.  Wishes bring a welcome distraction, joy and happiness to children, siblings and families, during their long and often traumatic medical journey.  We aim to transform lives, one wish at a time.

About the role

Reporting to the Chair of the Board, your role will be the interface between the organisation and the Board of Trustees.  You will lead Make-A-Wish and our team through a time of transition, and be responsible for the next stage of growth.  You will partner with the Board in strategic planning, and bring that strategy to life along with the annual plan.   We have aspirational goals to grow, and this role will have a direct impact on our ability to grant more wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Our team is highly engaged and committed to creating impactful change, and as CEO you will lead from the front, and wear many hats.

About you

You will be an exceptional and collaborative leader, who is as comfortable around the board table, as working in the business and rolling up your sleeves.  We are looking for a visionary, who is an entrepreneurial thinker, and not afraid to think big in terms of fundraising and opportunities.  While you might not have direct experience in the social impact sector, an understanding & empathy for the  challenges we face is critical.  Perhaps you come from a commercial background and have experience in developing clients, creating joint ventures and partnerships, and are well connected in the business world?  You may have a wealth of social impact experience and you are looking to make the next step in your career.  Experience working with a board of directors and developing high impact relationships  is essential to this role.   You will be able to demonstrate strong organisational leadership, with an ability to attract and retain high performing people and foster an engaged and inclusive culture.
