Neighbourhood Support Hamilton is a vibrant community organisation dedicated to creating safe, resilient, and connected communities in Hamilton. We believe that a well-connected community helps to improve safety, resilience, and wellbeing for all. We work closely with New Zealand Police, Neighbourhood Support New Zealand, Hamilton City Council and many other community organisations.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and community-minded individual to join our team as an Area Coordinator. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in coordinating and facilitating our initiatives, building relationships with residents and community stakeholders, and promoting community engagement and safety. This position is a contract role, offering 20 hours per week with the opportunity to grow in the future, as funding allows. You will report to our Area Coordinator Supervisor, and accountable to the Neighbourhood Support Hamilton Management Committee.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with residents, NZ Police, Hamilton City Council and other community groups and stakeholders.
  • Organise and facilitate community events, meetings, and workshops aimed at fostering connections and addressing neighbourhood concerns.
  • Provide support and guidance to Neighbourhood Support street groups and volunteers.
  • Coordinate communication efforts, including newsletters, social media, and other platforms, to keep members informed and engaged.
  • Identify opportunities for community partnerships, funding, and resources to support neighbourhood initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and activities, collecting feedback and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Report to the Neighbourhood Support Hamilton Management Committee monthly on your activities.

Your Attributes:

  • Experience working in community development, neighbourhood organising, or a similar role is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organise, and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of community resources, local government structures, and social issues affecting neighbourhoods advantageous.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for community events and meetings.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. We will reimburse a per-kilometre rate for any trips taken in the line of your work.
