The Support Worker is a key role in our residential service, working within the house out on a rural site near Tai Tapu. The support role is pivotal in our resident’s journey to wellbeing.

Mō mātou – Our Organisation

Purapura Whetu partner with Odyssey House Christchurch who have been providing drug and alcohol treatment programmes for over 30 years. Our Women’s Residential programme offers a mix of clinical approaches including Māori and Pasifika concepts of health and wellbeing from a Therapeutic Community model.

As part of our residential team, you will build upon the proud history of Purapura Whetu and Odyssey in Canterbury and ensure the house runs to structure and the wahine are working toward wellness.

Te Whiwhinga mahi – The opportunity

In this role you will:

  • Support the residential programme through group education and activities
  • Attend appointments and outings with clients

This role will be based at our adult women’s residential site, so a lot of time is required supporting the clients with medication, food preparation and other day to day learning activities.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu – What you will bring
To be successful, you will have:

  • A level 4 health qualification preferably in alcohol and other drugs (AOD), social work or mental health or be willing to work towards this
  • Excellent judgement and strong boundaries
  • Excellent time management skills to juggle multiple tasks
  • Ability to take initiative, be flexible and think out the box
  • A high level of understanding of tikanga Māori and its importance within this setting

Working from both our residential service, just south of the city, you will need a full Drivers Licence. This role is remunerated under the Support Worker pay equity rates.
