Job Description

  • Strategic and operational role, with diverse stakeholder engagement
  • 20 hours per week, Tuesday to Thursday
  • Based in Newtown, Wellington


WellElder provides a specialist community-driven counselling service for older people as part of a proactive and protective approach to their emotional and mental good health. Their Counsellors work with individuals, couples and family/whānau and provide high-quality, ethical counselling services throughout Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti and the Hutt Valley.

WellElder is looking for a special person to lead the organisation and day-to-day operations.

Central to this is supporting a passionate team of part time Counsellors and office staff, and proactively building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity requiring a friendly, confident and natural leader. You will be a future based thinker with excellent communication skills, have a strong customer focus and will genuinely enjoy stakeholder engagement.

WellElder’s office is centrally located in the heart of Newtown, right on the bus route. This is a permanent part time position for 20 hours per week, from Tuesday to Thursday.

Person Profile:


  • Strong leadership experience with the ability to inspire the WellElder team with vision
  • Ability to translate strategic direction as determined by the Board into successful operational initiatives
  • Community focussed, with a track record of success in, and a deep commitment to, building and maintaining exceptional stakeholder relationships
  • Experience in the not for profit sector would be advantageous
  • A self-starter with lots of initiative
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven business acumen and financial literacy
  • A consultative and open style with a transparent approach
  • A genuine passion for, and ability to work sensitively with, people over 60
  • Committed to WellElder’s values and goals, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working in a culturally appropriate manner
  • Competency in Microsoft suite of programmes and database management

$79,040 - $93,600 full time equivalent ($39,520 - $46,800 for 20 hours per week).
