Sport Waitākere was developed to help create and maintain a healthy, physically active community across West Auckland. We were registered as a Charitable Trust in 1991.
At our core, we prioritise a systems approach to ensure that West Aucklanders have equitable access to the spaces, places and activities that positively contribute to their health and wellbeing. Sport Waitākere focuses on building the capability of the community and strengthening our networks across West Auckland that aim ensure our community whānau have access to, and ownership of their health and wellbeing.
We have a strong commitment to equitable outcomes for all but prioritise our Māori community. We are committed to continue to develop authentic relationships with Māori to ensure we can understand and respond to the needs and aspirations of our Māori communities.
Sport Waitākere are funded via a number of local and national stakeholders, with our predominant partners being Te Whatu Ora and Aktive / Sport New Zealand. We have an aspiration to sustain and grow our sources of investment, as well as look at opportunities for social enterprise
