Maraeroa Marae Health Clinic (MMHC) is a kaupapa Māori health provider based at Maraeroa Marae in Porirua, dedicated to supporting whānau to thrive in their communities. Grounded in tikanga Māori, MMHC creates opportunities for whānau to participate in and enjoy Māori cultural practices while having their health and social needs met with care, dignity, and excellence.
Our vision is centred on strong, healthy whānau, and our mission is to promote leadership through role modelling—serving as a cultural centre of excellence within the Wellington region. Maraeroa Marae stands as our tūrangawaewae, a place of belonging where culture, connection, and wellbeing come together.
MMHC is funded by the New Zealand Government through agencies including the Ministry of Health and Māori and New Zealand Health Authorities. We deliver kaupapa Māori health services across Porirua, supporting communities in Ranui, Cannons Creek, Waitangirua, Ascot Park, Aotea, Papakowhai, and Whitby, with a strong focus on high-needs populations, particularly Māori and Pacific peoples.
While we are not a GP practice, our services span a wide range of holistic supports, including Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) counselling, Well Child Tamariki Ora, Whare ki te Whare (hospital-to-home transition support), Mate Pukupuku cancer support, Kaumātua rōpū, and specialist clinics. Through these services, MMHC works alongside whānau to strengthen wellbeing, resilience, and connection to culture and community.
