Te Whare Roimata is a grassroots, Treaty-based, bi-cultural community development trust serving Christchurch’s Inner-City East and urban Māori communities. For over 30 years, Te Whare Roimata has been working to build a stronger, more inclusive, and self-reliant neighbourhood by creating opportunities for local participation, leadership, and social cohesion. We support whānau development and provide tūrangawaewae, a place for people to stand tall.
Te Whare Roimata runs a wide range of community-led initiatives:
-Linwood Community Arts Centre / Eastside Gallery – Offering accessible arts classes, exhibitions, and creative events.
-Stanmore Road Post & Books – A community postal and book service.
-Tiny Shops Village – A community hub made of small buildings in a community garden, hosting a cafe, workshops, free bike repairs, and more.
Other services include neighbourhood support and outreach, advocacy and welfare assistance, cultural and health support for Māori, and a labour-pool for community projects.
